Coronado is a public high school within the Clark County school district. Students from 9th grade to 12th attend Coronado. The schools doors opened in 2000 and since has been a higher performing school. Many different AP classes are offered, ranging from Computer Science, U.S. History, Chemistry, and Psychology. Around 40 percent of students go on to four-year colleges and 30 percent of students enter two-year community colleges after graduating senior year. Several students attend these colleges from Coronado either on an academic scholarship or athletic scholarship. Coronado has over 50 extracurricular activities for students to choose from. Among them are Theater, Choir, Film Institute, Spanish and French clubs, Teenage Republican,Young Democrats, Forensics, Robotics, Bowling, Golf, Track, Marching Band, Football, Tennis, Basketball and AP Club.
Coronado’s Marching band is quite remarkable. They have won many accolades and marched in many parades. In 2006 and 2009 Coronado’s band made the finals in the Bands of America performance. The band has traveled to San Diego, London, England, Washington D.C., and Dublin, Ireland to perform in New Year’s Day, Independence day and St. Patrick day parades and the National Cherry Blossom festival.
